Cool Google Maps

November 29th, 2005

Since Google came out with their maps and a developer API to plug applications into its maps, many people have built visualization tools around it. The results vary from entertaining/silly to very useful. I just came across this compilation of Google Maps services, and it makes for a really interesting read:

Google Maps are a perfect example how an open service with a developer API can get tremendously popular by leveraging the creativity of independent developers. The API approach has been popularized by people like flickr and del.icio.us and to me is one of the best developments that occured over the last year or so with many new web companies/products.
