CodeCon 2006

February 13th, 2006

CodeCon 2006 is almost over…as I didn’t get a chance to write up all presentations, check out Daniel Meredith’s blog for a good report. And full disclosure: BV Capital is a sponsor.
CodeCon is a conference organized by programmers for programmers and the presentations are typically very technical - it’s common to discuss code snippets as part of the talks. I am not sure I have seen a similar thing in Europe (BarCamp in Amsterdam was probably as close as its gets). Here are a few characteristics of the conference - you pick which one of them is false:

a) The venue is a nightclub
b) The conference organizer proposed to his future wife after she finished her presentation on data mining operations within PostgreSQL
c) Microsoft is sponsoring CodeCon, although less than 20% of participants run windows
d) The predominant beverage consumed during the talks is beer
e) There is a loft area where the only source of light are the lit Apple logos on the back of Mac laptops
Check out the pictures and find the answer below….

Answer for above:
d) is wrong. The predominant beverage was actually Red Bull and/or coffee.

Some people looking at these picture will ask me what I do there as a VC - too me its like recharging the software development batteries - I get to see what is in and what is out in software development and there is all kinds of people working on interesting projects or with interesting start-ups here, so it’s worthwhile attending for a VC as long as you have a technical background yourself.
