When I started my office hours some time ago, some VCs asked me whether I wasn’t getting inundated with random requests. Turns out that I get really good questions and hear about interesting businesses in most of these calls, so providing new “inbound channels” to VCs seems like a worthwhile idea.
I just came across another kind of inbound channel that some well known VCs from the Valley are apparently trying out: A video contest for pitching your business plan. You have 30s to pitch your idea which will be reviewed by a VC panel (or the associates of the partners listed on the site, knowing how this works…). The winner is flown to California and gets half a year of free office space in the valley. Don’t hold your breath for the winner just yet, though…the lucky one will be chosen on March 5th.
I think this is an interesting way to play with a new format that shows once more how the Internet makes your location less relevant if you have a great idea, and it may be a better way to give a concise, compelling pitch than sending your business plan to the info@somevcfund.com address. However. if you feel that your idea or business is so compelling that you don’t want to wait til March 5th until you talk to a VC, though, see the office hours I mentioned above… and yes, of course you can send a video instead of an email if you prefer
