Web Analytics OR Big Brother is Watching
I just took a look at RobotReplay.com which launched last week and claims to be a new way to do web analytics by tracking your customers’ mouse movements and clicks during a session on your site. Apparently it’s free and all you need to do is insert some code in your html. However, even robotreplay.com is very slow so I’d be weary of performance hits.
The concept has been around for some time, but to my knowledge was only used by large eCommerce sites (Tealeaf offers this service against a fee). The concept sounds intriguing and I am a big fan of analytics, but I am really wondering if people are exaggerating a bit…I am not sure if mouse movements really provide better information than clickstream analysis. Maybe next time you go to a site there’ll be a popup “To ensure quality of service, your session will be monitored or recorded”…
