Reboot Snippets

May 31st, 2007

So Reboot this year is on humanity….here are a few tidbits from this morning illustrating the breadth of the discussions:

On humans (Robert Paterson)
Humans take in 1.5 tons of matter each year. 98% of atoms in your body are replaced within a year.

On humanity and Second Life (Adam Arvidsson, the only academic I have seen talks in contiguous sentences at more than 5 words/s):
Second life is the same thing, people go in as individuals but in the end it’s all about sex and gambling.

On peer to peer (Michael Bauvens):
In the US, “the person like yourself or peer” was only trusted [as a reliable source of information] by 23% in 2003, but this is up to 68% in 2007. Yet, only 28% see a company CEO as a credible source of information. (Edelman study)
